  • Who am I?

My name is Mark Parker.   I love Paris and good wine. I think purple is awesome and I'm a wedding photographer for selfish reasons.

You see, I never want to forget what it feels like to experience young love.  Being a part of weddings nearly every week revitalizes that feeling and feeds my soul.   Who wouldn’t, if given a chance, capture the moment in time when they are most happy  and freeze that moment so that it can be relived over and over for the rest of their lives.    That's what I do for my clients.  That's what I do for me.

    I'm a wedding photographer.  But that's not WHAT I am,  it's WHO I am.

Want to know more about me?  Follow @marksbrides on twitter.  Or better yet, keep reading the blog.   It's my life as it happens.

  • What do I do?

I mainly shoot weddings in the southeastern US including Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida and the Carolinas.

I'm also available for destination weddings in the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Jamaica and beyond. Heck, you name it - and I'm there!

  • How much do I charge?

Sometimes too many choices can be a bad thing.   I only offer one level of service.

Complete and unlimited wedding day photography is $2500.

Kelly and Wade – Winnataska

What the heck is a “Winnataska”?    Winnataska is a youth camp established near Moody Alabama in 1916.  As a joint effort between the Boy Scouts and the Interdenominational Birmingham Sundays School Association, the camp has been in continuous operation for nearly 100 years!!

In her foreword to the book “Winnataska Remembered”, written by Katherine Price Garmon and Virginia Pounds Brown, Leah Rawls Atkins wrote “Winnataska represented the firsts in the lives of many children—–the first time to ride a pony, the first time to swim or paddle a canoe, the first time to be away from home…..Winnataska was more than a pleasant break in the long hot summer. More than hiking and camping and being close to nature and God. More than learning to follow rules and to get along with others…..For thousands of young people who were fortunate enough to have passed through those rock gateposts, Winnataska days eased the pain of growing up and encouraged us to adopt worthwhile commitments and lifetime goals.”

Okay.  Now we’ve got that covered.  What the heck is a “Kelly and Wade”?    Kelly and Wade met at Camp Winnataska several years ago.   They both attended the camp as children but their paths never crossed until they became councilors  there.   Like many other Winnataska couples before them,  they fell in love.   I photographed their wedding this weekend.  Guess where it was.   Winnataska!!!

Maiden Voyage – Timeless

I ran across one of my all time favorite images the other day. It’s been about a year since I shot this wedding in cooperation with Helena Wedding Chapel and I realized I had never posted it on my site.

What makes this image special to me is the simplicity of the moment. As photographers we are often caught up in the current photography trends. Several years ago, selective color images were very popular. Then panoramic images became the fad. Most recently “Textured Images” seem to be the technique du jour. And I have lots of other techniques in my “Bag of Tricks” that I use to try to separate me from the dozens of other fantastic photographers in my market.

But it is images like this one that help me to realize that timeless moments create timeless images. Photos like this one will never go out of style.

Lenzy and Clay – Wedding at Turnbrook Manor

One upon a time there was a fair maiden who never really gave much thought about the charming princes that roamed the land . . .  Oh sorry, wrong story!!

Well actually it’s not to far from the truth.   Lenzy and Clay created their own fairytale story just a few short weeks ago.   They chose the beautiful and elegant Turnbrook Manor as the place to begin their new life together.   Despite an unseasonable cold snap,  the wedding was as perfect as any I’ve ever seen.   Congratulations guys!!   Thanks for letting me be a part!!

Check out their Gallery and Slideshow.
